Saatchi Gallery

I visited the Saatchi Gallery recently, and its known for being a bit kooky. Well it didn't disappoint. Some Weird and Some Wonderful exhibitions. All in the name of research for my final collection!

Final Crit

What i've been working all term for. My jacket (right) was for a project called 'traces' we had to design a jacket inspired by memories. My group decided on a theme called 'parting is such sweet sorrow' which encompasses falling in love and heart break. Our two main trends being Romance and Grunge I've used innovative shapes and silouettes to portray the theme and colours and textures to show the bad memories on the outside and the raw memories on the inside.

SHOWstudio Fashion Revolution...

SHOWstudio founded by Nick Night has put on an exhibition in Somerset House to make the most of the riverside building. The Exhibition focuses on Fashion, Art and Architecture...including a live studio where Nick Night is currently working with i-D magazine on their '100 portraits' project. 'Our aim is to tap into the originality of some of the exceptionally talented people working in London and provide a unique platform for innovation and inspiration' Gwyn Miles, Director Somerset House.

Examples of work from John Galliano 'Past Present and Couture'and Alexander McQueen 'Transformer: The bridegroom stripped bare'. A long with a amazonian version of Naomi Campbell, which enhanced with rare emerging technology of which you can draw all over the model herself.

The Picture/Message: Poser, featuring Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfield, Grace Coddington and Katie Grand caught unaware by photographer David Weightman who placed a camera in a wall behind a concave mirror. Rumour has it he was inspired by Michael Powell's horror film 'Peeping Tom'

lipstick imprints from many a famous model in many different shades and many an enviable pout.

This exhibition is what it says on the tin 'revolutional' touching on issues more hard hitting than whats in and whats out....politics, body image, communication, talent and the hard work that goes into the fashion industry.

Emerging Talent...

The Winner of the 'emerging talent' award at the British fashion awards is Peter Pilotto. Having gone against the economic odds of 2009 Peter Pilotto sales have soared this past year, and gone from strength to strength. The combination of prints, drapery and silhouettes create a distinctive yet wearable style, and this collection for spring.summer 2010 is one of my favourites to date.

Luella's Christmas Window...

For those of you who aren't aware, the recently discontinued Luella is keeping us in tune with her ecclectic style with a Christmas Display in the window of Liberty, London.

The window features an array of weird and wonderful sights including men in drag, fox heads, with a hint of graffiti and british tea party.

I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you are - like me - a Luella Bartley fan.
